What to Expect
at our Friday Gatherings
At Chi Alpha Christian Fellowship at Boston University, our Friday night Gatherings are shaped around the theme of the Kingdom of God—the idea that through Jesus, God is actively restoring and renewing people, relationships, and the world, and inviting us to participate in that story right here on campus.
When you come on a Friday night, you can expect a rhythm of worship, teaching, and community that helps you explore what it means for God’s Kingdom to come “on earth as it is in heaven” in real, everyday student life.
We begin with a welcome and fun interaction, where you’ll be welcomed into a relaxed, open environment where people are genuinely glad you’re there. This isn’t just small talk—it’s the beginning of forming a community shaped by the values of God’s Kingdom: presence, hospitality, and genuine connection.
Next is a call to worship, which helps us re-center our attention on Jesus as King. It’s a moment that reframes the night around the reality that God’s Kingdom is not distant or abstract, but in our lives right now.
The message focuses on Scripture and the life of Jesus, asking what it looks like to live under His reign in practical ways. We explore questions like: What does the Kingdom of God mean in a university setting? How does it reshape identity, ambition, relationships, justice, and purpose? The teaching is meant to be honest, grounded, and relevant to the tensions and questions students are already carrying.
After the message, we move into small groups, where you’ll gather with a consistent group of students and leaders. This is a space for connection and trust-building over time—getting to know people, sharing life, and growing in community that extends beyond Friday nights.
We then gather together again for a discussion time, where the focus shifts to the teaching. Here you can ask questions, talk through what stood out, and wrestle honestly with how the message connects to your life and faith.
We then gather for musical worship, responding to God together through song. In light of the Kingdom of God, worship becomes more than music—it’s an act of reflection, hope, and alignment with what God is doing in the world and in us.
A benediction follows, sending us out with blessing and reminding us that we are invited to live as Kingdom people throughout the week—on campus, in friendships, in studies, and in everyday decisions.
We close with announcements, sharing opportunities to stay connected through community, prayer, discipleship, and outreach as we learn to live out the Kingdom of God together at BU.
Overall, Friday nights are designed to be a space where students can encounter Jesus, explore the reality of God’s Kingdom, and learn what it means to live as part of His renewing work in the world—starting right where you are.
